Looking for an easy way to create stress balloons? We recently created these which I thought would be perfect as a project to do with the kids! The way I created these, is with cornflour (corn starch in the USA) and some water. Click through to see more!


How to make DIY Stress Balloons

These balloons were made (with so much fun) and we are still suing the balloons as stress relievers and even pets! haha

Great little expermient even for kids learning mass and how it works. So basically, these were created with a 2 year old and a 4 year old. The 4 year old was able to understand why we are putting cornflour into the balloons, she said "so they get big".

So I had seen many tutorials first on this, but I thought hey why not try to use cornflour instead of flour so that the cornflour and water mixture create a paste.

Materials:

  • large balloons (any colour)
  • cornflour (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cup of water
  • sharpie
  • yarn for hair (optional)
  • a funnel (if you don't have this you can make one using paper (like in the video below).
  • a tub to work into to make minimal mess
Method:

First, try to blow up the balloons just a little to stretch them out. Then place the funnel into the balloon opening. be sure to do this over the tub (for minimal mess).

Begin to scoop in cornfour. You don't want to put too much in the balloon because you still want to add water. So about half balloon filled with cornflour and then half water. 

Once you've done that, close the balloon up with a knot. 

Have the kids try a squeeze! This will also mix the contents up inside the balloon.

Now, you can draw funny faces onto the balloons, I would suggest you do this BEFORE you place everything inside the balloon as it can be a little difficult to draw on if it isn't firm enough.
